WAYS YOU DIDNT KNOW YOU COULD USE COCONUT OIL....

Have you ever used coconut oil in your beauty routine? Coconut oil has become the moment's most obsessed about natural beauty staple and it has amazing beauty benefit not minding it is found in the kitchen.  Here are the different ways you could incorporate coconut oil into your beauty routine.

  • MAKEUP REMOVER
Coconut oil will gently remove your makeup. Just make sure to rinse it off after a few minutes. Place some on a cotton pad and rub gently in circles around your eyes area to get rid of makeup.

  • HAIR SOFTNER
Use coconut oil as a DIY hair mask to soften your hair and add moisture. Just scoop it out and apply to your hair focusing on the ends ( Girls with oily hair should avoid the root area so as to prevent clogging ). You can leave it in for 30minutes or even sleep with it, then you can do the usual shampoo and condition.

  • SHAVING CREAM
Give yourself a smooth shave by using coconut oil in place of your normal shaving cream. This is a great idea for people with sensitive skin who may be sensitive to some chemicals in normal shaving creams.

  • FRIZZ-TAMER
Use a tiny amount of coconut oil to smooth down flyaways and add shine to your locks. It can also be used to unravel your locks, twist, bantu knots, roller sets and braids. All you need to do is dip your fingers in coconut oil before you get started.

  • MOISTURISER
The fatty acids in coconut oil helps lock moisture into the skin, smooth some into your elbows, knee, feet and other rough spots to soften and heal.

  • CUTICLE OIL
If your nail beds have been looking a bit dry and ragged, just dab some coconut oil on them. Do this before bed and put on gloves, you will wake up to soft smooth nails.

  • BODY SCRUB
Make your own body scrub by combining coconut oil with brown sugar. Coconut oil also has anti-fungal properties so it makes a great foot scrub too.

  • FACE SCRUB
Add some baking soda to your coconut oil for a gentle face exfoliator. You might feel a bit of residue after rinsing but the oil will absorb into your skin after a few minutes.

  • EYE CREAM
Coconut oil is great for hydrating the gentle skin around your eyes. It will leave your eye area baby soft and decrease signs of wrinkles.

There you have it, get your coconut oil and get started!

MY EXPERIENCE..

REGULAR SHAMPOOS AND CONDITIONERS: MY EXPERIENCE.

I embarked on an emergency journey and i didn't carry my hair kit along because i had no intentions of taking down my weave extension. Plans changed and i stayed longer than expected and i had to take out my weave extension ( Since i have a policy of wearing extensions for only two weeks and braids for not more than 4 weeks ). I went for a hunt for organic shampoos and conditioners but to my surprise, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. I decided to look for a saloon that had at least a sulphate free conditioner but all i saw was nameless shampoos and conditioners in small white kegs. I had no choice i just needed to wash my hair so i got Dudu Osun (Black soap) . When it was time to wash my hair, i handed out the black soap to the stylist; you can imagine the look i got from her lol. I paid no attention as if i read her mind i told her plainly " That is what i want to use" after washing with the black soap, i instructed her to use their nameless conditioner ( At least the nameless conditioner wouldn't make me bald after one use ). The conditioner had a refreshing banana fragrance so it just helped me get over my paranoid state. i did my hair in cornrows and had another extension sewed in as a protective style. A week later, i took it down because i was in a hurry to put all my nappy hair product since i was back to base. What i saw when i took out my cornrows was just so frightening. My hair was in its driest state not to mention the heavy dandruff that came with it.

It took me about 3 whole days to bring my hair back to life. I did hot oil treatments, preepooed, protein treatment, tea rinsed with moringa tea, shampooed, deep conditioned, cowashed then i finally put in my leave in conditioner and sealed with coconut oil then i had my hair in a protective style. My hair finally got its groove back and i have learned to pack my nappy hair kits in handy bottles.

GETTING STARTED WITH NAPPY HAIR STYLES

GETTING STARTED WITH NAPPY HAIR STYLES:
Few months after i went natural i decided to try out some of the beautiful nappy styles that caught my eyes (You know you are not natural yet if you do not switch styles). My hair was in TWA(Tenny Wenny Afro) stage, so i was limited to fros until my friend Ada of Nappilynigeriangirl advised i did twist out and i had no idea to go about it. She just said " When your hair is damp, do a double strand twist then when it's dry, untwist it" I had my sister help me twist and then when it got dried i untwisted. It turned out quite well but i thought i looked weird so i took it down and had this done.

I gave it another try and it ended up looking like dread locks.

I didn't give up still on twistoutsI made a third attempt and it turned out nice....

Didnt brush the root together
One day i felt my hair was long enough, so i did the almighty bantu knots and it turned out lovely.
